Nadal beat Almagro in US Open

Despite taking a fairly solid 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 third round over his friend Nicolas Almagro, six-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal received a kick in the gut, as his sore abdominal muscle acted up, and now he will be hard pressed to win his first US Open crown.

Soderling was the man who knocked Rafael Nadal out of the French Open, ending the Spaniard's four-year reign at Roland Garros on his way to the final where he lost to Roger Federer, just as he did in the Wimbledon fourth round.

China's Zheng Jie engineered a stunning upset of world number one Dinara Safina 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the third round of the WTA Los Angeles Tennis Championship. With the victory the 26-year-old from Chengdu highlighted a bruising day four for the top seeds at the 700,000 dollar hardcourt event.
