Wikimedia Foundation funding to run the Wikipedia until the end of June
The Wikimedia Fundation announced that they have received about US$6.2 million since launching its fundraising campaign in early November. The organization will use the money to maintain and grow its technical infractures, a big part of which id devoted to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, and one of the Web's popular sites.
Wikipedia is free and doesn't run advertising, so it depends on donation grants. Wikimedia's goal was to raise $6 million to fund its operation through the end of its fiscal year on June 30 of this year.
"The campaign has proven that Wikipedia matters to its users, and that our users strongly support our mission: to bring free knowledge to the planet," Jimmy Walse (Wikipedia founder) said in a statement.
About 250 million people worldwide visit Wikipedia every month. They have ranked that Wikipedia is the ninth popular online destination with 60.7 Million unique visitor, in current survey of U.S.
Other Wikimedia sites are online dictionary Wikionary and quotation collection Wikiqoute.
