LG - OLED Screens by end of 2009
LG made an announcement and confirmed that they will be going to launch the OLED displays onto the commercial market by the end of 2009, together with a range of LED-backlit displays. LG India plans to launch 35 models of LCDs, eyeing a 33 per cent market share by year end.
Amitabh Tiwari executive of LG says the company plans to launch LED and OLED display options in the next couple of months. "OLED should be here by end of 2009." Commenting on prices, he says, "LED-backlit displays might be 1.6 times the cost of present generation LCDs, whereas OLEDs might cost 2.1 times the price of an LCD.
In addition to OLED, Toshiba has already pledged to bring a 30in OLED model to market this year. While Samsung’s planning to roll out 13in OLED screens by 2010, in addition to 40in and 42in panels in 2010.
The company is also using a new In-Plane Switching technology which is expected to bring advanced touchscreen functionality to some of the displays, with no visual artifacts from pressure points. LG demonstrated a 19-inch OLED panel in Korea.
