ASUS launches new servers and workstations
ASUS, one of the world's leading vendors of motherboards, portable computer systems and computer hardware, has announced the availability of its latest 5U pedestal and rack-mountable servers and workstations, designed to provide business users with the performance enabled by Intel's latest series of dual- and quad-core Xeon 5500 processors.
According to the company, the new systems have been designed with DDR3 and PCIe 2.0 support, with additional expansion slots to be used for dedicated graphics, network cards or other expansion options. First off, we have the new TS700-E6/RS8, which is built on the Intel 5520 IOH and ICH10R chipset combo, featuring support for Intel's Xeon X5500, E5500 and L5500 series of server processors. The system offers support for up to 96GB of DDR3 memory (RDIMM), thanks to the use of the 3-channel 12 memory DIMMs. There are six SATA 2 300MB/s ports with support for Intel's Matrix Storage technology, RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5. Optionally, customers can select from a series of SAS RAID cards for added value.
The other new ASUS Nehalem-based server system is TS500-E6/PS4, which is built on the Intel 5500 IOH and ICH10R chipset combo. The difference between the two systems is that the second has only 6 memory DIMMs and enables support for up to 48GB (RDIMM) of DDR3 memory. In addition, this model lacks the Aspeed AST2050 8MB onboard graphics chip that has been enabled on the TS700-E6/RS8. Both systems are designed to provide increased storage support and a 620W redundant power supply.
Built on Intel's latest server technology, these new systems from ASUS are designed to provide customers with high flexibility, reliability, storage capacity and expandability, according to the company. With the optional ASMB4-iKVM module these solutions can provide real-time web-based management and remote system control.
