Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5
Microsoft officially announced the launch date of Windows Mobile 6.5. The date coincides with the opening of Microsoft’s Tech Ed 2009 conference on 11th May.
The Tech Ed conference is aimed at IT professionals and developers, and Microsoft will be hosting several sessions on developing for Windows Mobile. We have reason to believe that the version that might be shown at the Tech Ed event will be different from the ones displayed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) because the OS has underwent lot of changes since then.
Windows Mobile 6.5 bring a huge update to the UI and the browser that will apparently make a big difference in the operating system. Windows Marketplace will also be a feature in 6.5 that will allow users to buy applications from the marketplace. Tech Ed visitors will also have the option of attending separate sessions on v6.5 topics, such as touch and gesture commands.
With the advent of sleeker, sexier smartphone platforms like the iPhone, Android and the WebOS from Palm, Windows needs much more than this stopgap OS. And that will come in the form of Windows Mobile 7 which we expect sometime in 2010.
