Honeywell: New Bendix/King AV8OR Software Enables Fuel Pricing and Airport Services Information
Honeywell announced that it is further expanding the functionality and capability of its Bendix/King by Honeywell AV8OR handheld navigation device, enabling pilots to view airport services information – including fuel pricing – while still in the air.
“This is the first time Flight Guide information has been available in the airplane on a handheld system,” said Brian Sill, Vice President, Business and General Aviation Aftermarket. “Considering the wide variation in fuel pricing in today’s aviation environment, this service could pay for itself in just a few flights.”
The service, available for an annual $99 fee beginning June 1, provides airport services data from Flight Guide, general aviations’ industry standard for almost 50 years. Data includes fuel pricing, on-field services, restaurants, taxi services and hotels, even noting free pick-up and discounts. By simply updating the AV8OR via a convenient Web site, pilots have access to the lowest fuel prices at thousands of locations across the US, so they can choose the best place to land for their needs. These updates are available for U.S. AV8OR handheld users on a daily basis, ensuring pilots get the most up-to-date fuel pricing.
“Flight Guide has been a popular tool in hard-copy and online,” said Brenda Garcia, President, Airguide Publications, Inc. “Being available on the AV8OR handheld makes Flight Guide data even more convenient.”
“In the air, a pilot can find the best fuel price at an airport with all the services he or she needs, including restaurants, hotels, taxi services and maintenance services. It is a great asset to the pilot, especially during cross country flights,” Sill added.
Additionally, the free GoFly software upgrade provides pilots with extended centerlines for runways, a winds-aloft indicator, increased color range for terrain and precipitation screens and additional weather products for those with weather service. In April, Honeywell upgraded its AV8OR GoFly software, adding a ZAON Portable Collision Avoidance System interface, RS-232 output for non-certified autopilots, larger text for readability, increased flight log memory capability and the addition of obstacles on the “Smart Profile” vertical display.
The Bendix/King by Honeywell AV8OR handheld navigator provides navigation in-flight or on the ground, incorporating weather capability and information in an easy-to-use touch screen format.
