Sony: DECR-1400A PS3 Reference Tool and SDK
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would further strengthen its support for game development on Playstation3 (PS3) computer entertainment system. SCEI introduced a new version of its debugging Reference Tool DECR-1400A for the PS3 and new SDK for developers.
The DECR-1400A looks like a normal PS3 but allows access deep inside the console's hardware and firmware, and can play early code rather just finished discs. The new Reference Tool models allow advanced game programming and more efficient computer graphics rendering.
In addition to the Reference Tool models, SEC also announced to provide a comprehensive line-up of software tools as well as technical support to the game development community. The SNC PPU toolchain for PS3, a compiler part of the Software Development Kit (SDK) to improve the productivity.
SCE introduced a graphics-rendering engine known as the PhyreEngineâ„¢. Provided as a full package along with its source code, and incorporated with many updated features including the linkage with the physics engines, this graphics rendering engine is adaptable to various game development styles.
This new model will appeal to a broader range of developers and publishers, and will help to provide a more streamlined game development environment, with its more affordable pricing.
