Synopsys, Inc., a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, announced that ST-Ericsson has adopted Synopsys' MVSIM low power dynamic verification solution for its STw8500 system-on-chip (SoC) platform for the mobile phone market. ST-Ericsson selected MVSIM for its proven ability to comprehensively verify low power techniques, including standby and built-in automated low power assertions, which enable the early detection of bugs. The tool's extensive support for the IEEE 1801 [Unified Power Format (UPF)] power format, on which the STw8500 project team has standardized, was also a deciding factor.

Empower Technologies introduced EMP3530-SDK media development platform and two cost-effective, high-performance EMP3503/3530 (EMP35xx) single board media computers. EMP3503 and EMP3530 are single board media computers for interactive kiosks, digital signage and other high-performance media applications. It delivers High-Definition (HD) video up to 720p screen resolution. The EMP35xx comes with Empower's Linux Embedded Operating System (LEOs) and Empower's own industrial grade always-play media player software “LEOs Media Player1.0” (LMP1.0). The EMP35xx solutions are also complemented by an optional USB WiFi or a 3.5G wireless data modem. Also available for licensing is the enterprise content management software running under the onboard web server that allows for remote user browser access to upload contents, perform software upgrade or content maintenance functions.

NEC Electronics today announced the development of CubeSuite, an integrated development environment (IDE) that combines all the tools necessary to develop applications for NEC Electronics' 8- through 32-bit All Flash microcontrollers (MCUs) into a single platform.

STMicroelectronics, the world’s largest supplier of serial EEPROMs, has leveraged its advanced non-volatile memory technology to deliver an industry first with two new 512-Kbit devices that offer the highest density memories available in the industry-standard 2 x 3 x 0.6mm 8-pin Micro Leadframe Package (MLP). Pin compatibility with memories of lower density allows designers to upgrade products quickly and efficiently by changing devices without redesigning the board.

ARM and National Source Coding Center (NSCC), a leader in Chinese GB AVS codec industry, announced that NSCC has successfully developed the first AVS Standard Definition (SD) decoder optimized for the ARM Cortex-A8 processor with NEON technology. The AVS (GB/T GB/T200090.2) is the second generation of source coding/decoding standard developed by the AVS Workgroup (Audio and Video Coding Standard Workgroup of China). This technology primarily addresses the problem of coding and compressing audio and video data. Since becoming the national standard in 2006, many Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers have adopted the technology.
